Cbd or cannabidiol is one of the compounds found in cannabis that has been proven to have a wide range of medicinal benefits. Cbd doesn’t make you feel high and it actually helps diminish the psychoactive effects of Thc.
An increasing number of recent clinical studies have shown without a doubt that cbd can be very helpful when dealing with a wide range of afflictions. : Chronic pain, MS, Schizophrenia, Epilepsy, Insomnia, Alcoholism, Anxiety. Cbd can also be very useful as an anti-inflammatory, anti-psychotic and anti-pain agent. Lately everybody is talking about the cancer fighting properties of Cbd, but this fact has not been proven yet in any clinical studies. Extensive research about the anti-cancer properties of cbd and thc is now being done at several academic centers all over the globe, so we should have more information on the subject soon enough. For a complete list of conditions where cbd has been found to be helpful check out: http://www.projectcbd.org/medicine-2/conditions/.
The most recent preclinical research shows that cbd (cannabidiol) has useful antioxidant, anti-convulsive and neuroprotective properties, furthermore cbd seems to activate directly our serotonin receptors, providing very positive anti-depressant results.
One of the many clinical studies conducted in early 2010 has discovered that cbd rich strains of cannabis did not impair short term memory of the subjects, as opposed to cannabis strains with a higher thc concentration. This is thanks to cbd’s role as an antagonist (Cb1). Read the entire study here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20884951

What is Cbd Oil ?
Concentrated cannabidiol extract also known as Cbd oil is becoming more and more popular in the medical marihuana community and no only. The reason for the extraction process is quite simple, to make cbd, thc and other beneficial cannabinoids easily available in a highly concentrated form. The process of making Cbd oil should always start from cbd rich plant material. The plant material used in cbd extraction can come from two different sources: special cannabis sativa strains like ‘’Charlotte’s Web’’, ‘’AC/DC’’ and ‘’Oracle’’.
These cannabis strains have been especially breed for their very high cbd concentration (12%-18%) and are quite low in thc as well (5%-6%).Even if these cannabis strains have a thc concentration of 5 to 6% the high amount of cannabidiol renders any possible psychoactive effects inert.
The second source of cbd rich plant material is hemp. Many strains of industrial hemp are being grown legally in Western Europe and other places of the world like India or China. One of these industrial hemp strains breed for their high cbd concentration is called ‘’Fedora 17’’. The cbd oil extracted from hemp has no psychoactive effects whatsoever because of its very low, almost insignificant thc concentration, 0.1% - 0.3%. Cbd oil made from hemp or Cbd hemp oil is legal in all 50 states and most countries. If you are interested in this type of Cbd oil you should check out some of these respected cbd hemp oil brands: Miracle Smoke and Golyoli Natural Cbd oil.
The best Cbd extraction methods:
1. CO2 extraction is by far the safest and cleanest extraction process available today. By using CO2 (carbon monoxide) at low temperatures and under very high pressure we are able to isolate, retain and conserve the purity of the medicinal cbd oil. Unfortunately CO2 extraction requires very expensive special equipment but if you do it right you will end up with a product that is safe to consume and very, very pure.
2. Olive oil can also be used with a great deal of success for extracting cbd from plant material. This method is booth safer and cheaper and I would recommend giving it a try if you plan on making cbd oil in the comfort of your own home. Remember, cbd oil extracted with olive oil is quite perishable; this is another good reason why the olive oil extraction method is better suited for people who want to make it at home as opposed to product makers who should be using CO2 extraction.
Olive Oil Extraction method step by step:
3. The solvent extraction method depends upon using chemical solvents like alcohol, ethanol and butane for extracting the cbd from plant material. The solvent method is quite cheaper and easier than using CO2 extraction but it provides a radar huge downside; the finished product can present traces of dangerous residue from the solvents used. Patients with compromised immune systems should definitely avoid this cbd extraction method all together. Furthermore the solvent extraction method destroys the plant waxes, known for their medicinal benefits. This method is definitely my least favorite of them all.

Olive Oil Extraction method step by step:
- Cbd rich plant material - 5 g
- Natural Solvent - olive oil (20 ml) + water (70ml)
- Extraction and Filtration - 50 ml water + 20 ml olive oil + 5 g plant material; heat at 98 degrees for 60 minutes in a water bath; before you begin the filtration process let it stand for a little while to cool off; filtarte using a French coffee press (this process separates the oil from the plant material); combine extracts.
- Evaporation and Separation - let the obtained solution stand for a while in order to separate the water from the oil. Stick it in the freezer at -20 degrees overnight.
- Reconstitution - now it's high time to collect the upper layer (the oil) by very slowly and carefully pouring it off the frozen water.
- Extraction - you should get about 20 ml of cbd oil from 5 g of plant material used in the extraction process.
